Important Information
Owner/Manager's Responsibility
Asset owner/managers have a “Duty of Care” to ensure that all assets are compliant and safe for use by their employees, which means that the assets will require regular on-going inspection and maintenance. The inspections are required to be undertaken by a competent person either employed or engaged by the owner on a regular basis, usually determined by the manufactures specifications. In the absence of manufacturers specifications Australian Standards will provide guidance.
Australian Standards & Statutory Requirements
Cranes and Lifting Equipment are assessed under the Australian Standards AS1418.1 Cranes, hoists and winches – Design and AS2550.1 Cranes, hoists and winches – Safe Use, relating to the design, commissioning and safe use. The Australian WHS Act 2010 Division 2 Primary Duty of Care Clause 19, states “places obligations on the owners, managers, designers, manufacturers and suppliers of plant and owner/operators to ensure it is safe and does not present a risk to persons using it.”
